Machu Picchu Last-Minute Ticket – 2-Day Circuit 2 Package

If the official Machu Picchu website shows no availability for your travel dates, you still have a real option. A limited number of entrance tickets are released for in-person registration in Aguas Calientes each day — but claiming one means navigating passport registration, train logistics, bus schedules, and an entry time you don’t get to choose, on your own, in a language you may not speak.

This package handles that process for you. Our team in Aguas Calientes manages your registration, secures your Circuit 2 entrance ticket, and pairs it with round-trip train service, bus transport, and a private English-speaking guide — so a sold-out date doesn’t mean a cancelled trip.

We are an independent, authorized ticket reseller — not the Peruvian Ministry of Culture. This package reflects our own service for securing last-minute access; it is not an official government product.

  • Guaranteed Circuit 2 entrance ticket, even when the official website shows sold out
  • Local support team in Aguas Calientes handles your passport registration in person
  • Round-trip train between Ollantaytambo and Aguas Calientes included
  • Private, English-speaking guide for a 2.5-hour tour of Machu Picchu
  • Access to the classic postcard viewpoint (Circuit 2A or 2B, depending on same-day availability)
  • Pricing drops per person as your group grows — book together and save

What’s Included

  • Machu Picchu entrance ticket — Circuit 2 (Route 2A Classic or Route 2B Lower Terrace)
  • Round-trip train: Ollantaytambo ↔ Aguas Calientes
  • Round-trip bus: Aguas Calientes ↔ Machu Picchu entrance
  • In-person passport registration assistance on arrival in Aguas Calientes
  • 2.5-hour guided tour of Machu Picchu with an English-speaking guide
  • On-the-ground support staff throughout your visit
  • Hotel pickup in Cusco and transfer to Ollantaytambo (Day 1)
  • Return transfer from Ollantaytambo to your hotel in Cusco (Day 2)

Not included

  • Hotel in Aguas Calientes (optional add-on, $30 per person — see below)
  • Meals and beverages
  • Huayna Picchu / Machu Picchu Mountain entrance (optional add-on)
  • Your entry time is assigned, not chosen. The Ministry of Culture sets your entry window once your registration number is called — it can fall anywhere between 6:00 AM and 3:00 PM. Low season usually defaults around mid-morning; high season and holidays skew later in the day.
  • Circuit 2A vs. 2B depends on same-day availability. Both routes include the classic panoramic viewpoint; we assign whichever is available at the time of registration.
  • 1,000 in-person tickets are released daily in Aguas Calientes. Of those, 600 are reserved for Circuit 2 (Routes 2A and 2B). The remaining allocation covers Circuit 3B (Royalty) and Circuit 1B (Upper Terraces) — our fallback options if Circuit 2 runs out before your registration number is called.
  • Last-minute tickets are only valid for the following day — this is the Ministry of Culture’s own rule, which is exactly why this package is structured as a 2-day trip: you register in Aguas Calientes on Day 1, and your entrance ticket is valid for Day 2, not for same-day entry.
  • Registration is personal — you need to be there. Each traveler must be physically present with their own passport when their registration number is called. Our staff handle the coordination and paperwork, but they can’t register on your behalf.
  • Bring your physical passport. It’s required for train boarding, entrance registration, and Machu Picchu entry — no exceptions, no digital copies.
  • Pack light. Train operators only allow small carry-on bags — leave large suitcases at your Cusco hotel.

We keep this straightforward, in line with the rest of our site:

  • More than 72 hours before Day 1: cancel for a refund minus a $50 per-person processing fee, which covers train tickets already issued on your behalf.
  • Less than 72 hours before Day 1: non-refundable. By this point train tickets, bus tickets, and your guide are already booked and committed, and none of these can be refunded on our end.
  • Date changes: allowed with at least 72 hours’ notice, subject to a $30 per-person rebooking fee plus any train fare difference.
  • If daily capacity is reached before your registration number is called (rare, mostly on Peruvian holidays and school-break dates): we automatically move your entrance ticket, train, and guide to the next available day at no additional charge for these services. Any extra hotel night in Aguas Calientes is the traveler’s responsibility.

Day 1 — Travel to Aguas Calientes & Registration

  • 3:00 AM — Private pickup from your hotel in Cusco.
  • 5:05 AM — Expedition train departs Ollantaytambo for Aguas Calientes.
  • ~6:40 AM — Arrival in Aguas Calientes; our team meets you at the station exit and takes you to the registration office for your last-minute entrance ticket. You’ll receive a registration number.
  • Once your number is called — Your Circuit 2 entrance ticket is issued. From here, the rest of the day is free — check into your hotel (if you’ve added one), rest, or explore Aguas Calientes.
  • 7:00 PM — Evening briefing with your guide at your Aguas Calientes hotel to confirm your Day 2 entry time.

Day 2 — Machu Picchu Visit

  • Bus from Aguas Calientes up to the Machu Picchu entrance.
  • Enter at your assigned time (anywhere from 6:00 AM to 3:00 PM, depending on official availability).
  • 2.5-hour guided tour of Circuit 2 with your English-speaking guide.
  • Bus back down to Aguas Calientes.
  • Return Expedition train — the package includes your choice of the 4:30 PM (default) or 6:00 PM departure from Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo, whichever better fits your entry time.
  • Private transfer back to your hotel in Cusco.

Need an earlier return than 4:30 PM, or a different train service (Vistadome, etc.)? A 10% fare fee applies for schedule changes within Expedition; other train categories vary significantly in price by date, so contact our team directly for a custom quote.

Day 3 — Only If Needed

  • On exceptionally high-demand dates, if the Circuit 2 allocation runs out before your registration number is called, we first try to secure Circuit 3B (Royalty) or Circuit 1B (Upper Terraces) instead, so your trip stays on schedule.
  • If neither fallback circuit is available either, your visit moves to Day 3, and we handle the rebooking of your train, bus, and guide automatically.
  • Any additional hotel night in Aguas Calientes is not included and is the traveler’s responsibility.

Is this an official Machu Picchu ticket?

Yes — the entrance ticket itself is issued directly by Peru’s Ministry of Culture through the same in-person registration process available to any traveler in Aguas Calientes. We are an independent, authorized reseller that manages that process on your behalf; we are not a government agency, and this package is our own service, not an official government product.

Can you really guarantee a Circuit 2 ticket even if the website shows sold out?

In the vast majority of cases, yes. A limited allocation of Circuit 2 tickets is released for in-person, same-day registration in Aguas Calientes, separate from the online booking system. What we can’t guarantee is your exact entry time — that depends entirely on official availability when your registration number is called.

What happens if Machu Picchu is completely full on my date?

This is uncommon but possible on major Peruvian holidays or school-break dates, when local demand is unusually high. Of the 1,000 in-person tickets released daily, 600 go to Circuit 2 — if that runs out before your number is called, we first try to secure Circuit 3B or Circuit 1B instead, so your trip stays on schedule. Only if none of those are available does your visit move to the next day, at no extra charge for the entrance ticket, train, or guide. An additional hotel night, if needed, is the traveler’s responsibility.

Why is this a 2-day trip instead of same-day?

It’s the Ministry of Culture’s own rule: last-minute tickets registered in person in Aguas Calientes are only valid for the following day, never for same-day entry. That’s why Day 1 covers travel and registration, and the actual Machu Picchu visit happens on Day 2.

Do I need my passport for this?

Yes. Your physical passport is required for train boarding, in-person registration, and entry to Machu Picchu. Passport photos or digital copies are not accepted.

Can I add Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain to this package?

Usually yes, subject to same-day availability at the time of registration. This add-on requires an extra night in Aguas Calientes, since the mountain permit is scheduled separately from your Circuit 2 entrance ticket.

Is a hotel in Aguas Calientes included?

No — hotel accommodation is not included in the base price, but you can add it at checkout for $30 per person. Most travelers add this, since Day 1 ends with an overnight stay in Aguas Calientes before the Day 2 visit.

What if I need to cancel?

You can cancel more than 72 hours before Day 1 for a refund minus a $50 per-person processing fee. Inside 72 hours, the package becomes non-refundable, since train tickets, bus tickets, and your guide are already booked and committed on your behalf.

I'm traveling solo — is there a cheaper option than the private transfer?

The solo traveler price includes a fully private Cusco↔Ollantaytambo transfer, with no shared pickups or wait time. If you’d prefer a shared return leg to lower your cost, reach out to our team directly and we’ll put together a custom quote.
