Rated 5.00 out of 5 based on 2 customer ratings
(2 customer reviews)

Book your Machu Picchu + Huayna Picchu ticket (Circuit 3A) to climb the iconic peak behind the citadel. This is the single most in-demand permit at Machu Picchu — only 400 climbers per day, split into two entry groups, so it sells out weeks or months ahead. Reach the summit for a bird’s-eye view over the entire site.

  • The steepest, most iconic climb at Machu Picchu
  • Panoramic views straight down over the citadel
  • Includes full access to the main citadel via Circuit 3
  • A genuine Inca staircase carved into the mountainside
  • Bragging rights: one of the most photographed hikes in South America
  • Machu Picchu entrance ticket with Huayna Picchu hiking permit, Circuit 3A
  • Mobile ticket, valid for your assigned entry group (7–8am or 10–11am)
  • Optional add-ons at checkout: round-trip bus, private guide
  • Duration: approx. 2 hours round trip (citadel visit not included in hike time)
  • Difficulty: high — steep stone stairs, narrow sections, not recommended if you’re afraid of heights or unfit
  • Entry: strict entry-group time; latecomers may be denied entry
  • Daily capacity: limited to 400 permits — book 2–3 months ahead, more in high season
  • ID required: passport (or ID matching the one used at booking)
  • Not recommended for: young children, pregnant travelers, or those with mobility or heart conditions

This entrance ticket and hiking permit are non-refundable once issued, as required by Peru’s Ministry of Culture. Add-ons (bus, guide) can be cancelled free up to 48 hours before your visit. [Full cancellation policy ]

The Huayna Picchu trailhead is inside the citadel, past the main Circuit 3 entry point — allow 15–20 minutes of walking from the main gate. You’ll check in at a control post at the base of the mountain with your passport before starting the climb. The trail is one-way up and down the same path; expect single-file sections with limited passing room.

Can I do Huayna Picchu if I'm afraid of heights?

We’d recommend against it. The trail includes steep stone stairs and narrow, exposed sections with sheer drops — it’s genuinely challenging for anyone uncomfortable with heights.

What happens if it rains on my Huayna Picchu day?

The hike proceeds rain or shine; the park doesn’t offer refunds for weather. Trails can be slippery, so wear proper footwear and consider trekking poles.

Is there an age limit for Huayna Picchu?

There’s no strict published age limit, but the climb isn’t recommended for young children, and travelers should be in reasonably good physical condition.

Can I change my Huayna Picchu entry time after booking?

Changes depend on availability and what the park system allows — they aren’t guaranteed. Contact us as early as possible if you need to switch groups.
