Booking Machu Picchu tickets

How much do Machu Picchu tickets cost?

Machu Picchu entrance tickets typically cost from about $39 to $64 per adult, depending on the circuit you choose (permits like Huayna Picchu cost more). Round-trip buses and private guides are optional add-ons priced separately at checkout.

What’s included in a Machu Picchu ticket?

A Machu Picchu ticket includes entry to the citadel along one assigned circuit for a specific date and entry time. It does not include the train to Aguas Calientes, the shuttle bus up to the entrance, or a guide — each of those can be added to your booking.

Are there discounts on Machu Picchu tickets?

Discounted Machu Picchu tickets are usually available for children, students with a valid ISIC card, and citizens of Peru and the Andean Community (CAN). Send us your travelers’ details and we’ll apply any discount you qualify for.

Can I buy Machu Picchu tickets at the entrance?

No. Machu Picchu tickets are not sold at the entrance gate, and the ticket office in Aguas Calientes is frequently sold out. To guarantee entry, buy your Machu Picchu tickets online before you arrive.

Where can I buy official Machu Picchu tickets?

Official-circuit Machu Picchu tickets can be booked through authorized partners like machu-picchu-tickets.com, or directly on the Peruvian government portal tuboleto.cultura.pe. We are an independent, authorized service that adds English support, buses, guides, and mobile delivery on top of the official-circuit ticket.

Machu Picchu circuits

What are the Machu Picchu circuits?

Machu Picchu is visited along fixed circuits set by park authorities, each covering a different route and set of viewpoints. The main options are Circuit 1 (upper and panoramic areas, including the Sun Gate and Inca Bridge), Circuit 2 (the classic postcard route, split into 2A and 2B), and Circuit 3 (the lower route, with the Huayna Picchu permit as Circuit 3A).

Which Machu Picchu circuit is best?

For a first visit and the classic postcard photo, Circuit 2A or 2B is the best Machu Picchu circuit. Choose Circuit 3A to climb Huayna Picchu, or Circuit 1 for the Sun Gate and Inca Bridge. If you’re unsure, we’ll match you to the right circuit over WhatsApp.

Do I need a guide for Machu Picchu?

A guide is not required to enter Machu Picchu, but it is recommended for first-time visitors to understand the site’s history and layout. You can add a licensed private guide to your Machu Picchu tickets at checkout.

Getting to Machu Picchu

How do I get to Machu Picchu?

Most travelers reach Machu Picchu by taking a train from Cusco, Ollantaytambo, or Poroy to the town of Aguas Calientes, then a 25-minute shuttle bus up to the entrance. The train and bus are separate from your entrance ticket, but we can arrange the bus and a complete day trip from Cusco.

Is the train to Machu Picchu included in my ticket?

No. The train to Aguas Calientes is not included in a Machu Picchu entrance ticket and is operated separately by the rail companies. Our full-day tour from Cusco does include the train, along with hotel pickup, the shuttle bus, and a guide.

On the day of your visit

Do I need my passport to enter Machu Picchu?

Yes. You must show the same passport used to book your Machu Picchu tickets at the entrance, because each ticket is issued to a named traveler. Bring the physical passport (or official ID) that matches your booking.

What time should I visit Machu Picchu?

Machu Picchu entry is by timed slot, and early-morning slots usually offer softer light and fewer crowds, while clouds often clear by mid-morning. Your Machu Picchu ticket admits you at the entry hour you select during booking.

How long does a Machu Picchu visit take?

A typical Machu Picchu visit lasts about 2 to 3 hours along your assigned circuit. Adding the Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain hike extends your visit by another 2 to 3 hours.

Delivery, cancellation and changes

How will I receive my Machu Picchu tickets?

Your Machu Picchu tickets are delivered by email as a mobile ticket, usually within 5 hours of booking and always within 24 hours. Show the ticket on your phone together with your passport at the entrance — no printing required.

Can I cancel or get a refund on my Machu Picchu tickets?

Machu Picchu entrance tickets and train tickets are non-refundable once issued, because the government and rail operators lock them to a named traveler, date, and time. Optional add-ons — the round-trip bus and private guide — can be cancelled up to 24 hours before your visit for a refund.

Can I change the date or name on my Machu Picchu ticket?

Changing the date or traveler name on a Machu Picchu ticket depends on what the government system and rail operators allow at the time, and it isn’t guaranteed. Contact us as early as possible and we’ll do whatever the operators permit.
